About Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is the most effective and natural skin rejuvenation treatment. Instead of introducing chemicals, fillers, and medications into your body, this procedure stimulates your body’s natural healing capabilities. The human body has incredibly powerful healing capabilities, and microneedling simply catalyzes the innate collagen production and skin cell regeneration processes, helping you achieve smoother skin. This treatment is perfect for people with acne scars, fine lines, and textural irregularities.

Microneedling with SkinPen

Microneedling involves making micro-injuries on the skin’s surface to activate collagen production. The average microneedling device can’t be customized according to the patient’s skin type and conditions, leading to a high risk of unwanted side effects. However, we perform microneedling using the cutting-edge SkinPen device, which can be customized according to the patient’s unique skin type, making it suitable for everyone. SkinPen is one of the safest and most effective microneedling devices on the market.

Microneedling Treats:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scarring
  • Facial scarring
  • Stretch marks
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Textural irregularities
  • Pigmentation problems
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Melasma
  • Freckles and redness
  • Brown spots and sunspots
  • Skin laxity and sagging skin

How Does Microneedling Work?

To understand how microneedling works, you must understand the importance of collagen, the skin’s primary structural component. Collagen is a fibrous protein that holds your skin upright against the force of gravity. It binds your skin tissues together, acting as a type of natural glue, ensuring your skin looks firm, taut, and youthful. Your body’s ability to produce collagen diminishes as you grow older, leading to sagging skin and wrinkles.

Microneedling works by stimulating natural collagen production, thus reversing the signs of aging. When the body is injured, it sends growth factors to facilitate natural healing. Microneedling involves making controlled injuries on the skin’s surface, just enough to trigger the body’s innate healing response. Over time, your body produces new skin cells and collagen fibers, making your skin look smooth, even-textured, tight, and youthful. The results are completely natural.

Advantages of Microneedling:

  • Non-surgical treatment — no injections or incisions
  • Performed after the application of a numbing cream
  • Only causes mild discomfort during treatment
  • Stimulates natural collagen production
  • Encourages the body to heal itself
  • Concludes within 30 to 60 minutes
  • Suitable for the face and body
  • Can be combined with PRP (platelet-rich plasma)
  • Customized according to the patient’s unique skin type
  • Mild post-treatment side effects, such as redness and swelling
  • No downtime or recovery period

Microneedling + PRP

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a special component drawn from a small sample of your blood. It contains a high concentration of growth factors, the components responsible for most of your body’s natural healing processes. The growth factors in your blood stimulate the production of collagen, blood clots, new skin cells, and much more. When we combine microneedling, we boost your results with the regenerative properties of growth factors derived from your body.

PRP therapy is extremely simple. The medical provider draws a small sample of your blood and places it in a centrifuge, where it’s spun to isolate the platelet-rich plasmas. The PRPs rise to the top of the vial as a golden-colored serum, which is then carefully applied to your skin after microneedling. There are absolutely no risks to applying PRP because it’s drawn from your body — no risk of infections or allergies.

The Microneedling Process

The medical provider examines your facial skin, discusses your goals, reviews your medical history, and determines if you need PRP with microneedling. The medical provider calibrates the SkinPen device according to your skin type, following which a numbing gel is applied to your face. The SkinPen device punches thousands of micro-channels on the skin’s surface to stimulate natural collagen production, which takes 30 to 60 minutes.

Side Effects & Downtime

You may experience mild pain and discomfort during the microneedling treatment, but most patients find the session tolerable. Your skin will look flushed, red, and swollen after the treatment, and some patients experience pinpoint bleeding. You must wear sunscreen and avoid direct sunlight and heavy workouts for a day or two. However, there’s no downtime — you can resume most of your normal activities and work immediately.

Results: Onset & Longevity

Microneedling produces cumulative results over several sessions. Your skin will look smoother and tighter after several weeks as your body produces new collagen fibers, but you’ll need 3 to 4 sessions spaced a few weeks apart for optimal results. Your medical provider will provide an overview of your treatment frequency during your session. You may also need maintenance treatments once or twice a year after the first series of treatments.
